Points proved hard to come by in the first round of the annual Liberty North Invitational. Only one girls basketball team mustered enough offense to crack the 50-point barrier all night long tonight at Liberty North Fieldhouse.

Kearney accomplished the feat - but barely - in the final game of the night in a 51-16 running-clock demolition of Raytown. Emma Couch scored 18 points for the Bulldogs, one shy of the first-round high of 19 by St. Joseph Central's Simone Rodney.

Smithville held off Liberty 45-41. Central completed a second-half comeback and then survived a last-second missed layup to escape with a 48-47 win against St. Pius X. Lincoln Prep defeated Liberty North 44-35.

Both hometown teams fell to the consolation side of the bracket for the first time in the history of the Liberty North Invitational.
