KEARNEY — Donations are needed for the Kearney School District's annual School Resource Fair, being held this year Aug. 8 and 9.
“In 2018, we served 140 families at our Resource Fair. We provided school supplies, hygiene and first aid kits, gently-used clothing and information about community resources,” states a release from school district counselors. “... While our event has grown each year, and we serve more and more families every year, we know we aren’t reaching all kids and families who could use this kind of support. For example, almost 600 students qualify for the free/reduced lunch program.”
To help get the word out about the fair and to gather donations, the school district is looking for the following:
• businesses, groups or individuals willing to share information about the fair;
• people willing to make a donation of gently-used clothing, school supplies or money to purchase needed supplies; and
• volunteers willing to hold a supply drive or to organize and distribute collected clothing.
Clothing sizes needed range from youth small to XXL. The district is in special need of Bulldog apparel. Clothing can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 5 to 7, at Hawthorne Elementary School.
