Hot Summer Nights to begin this weekend

More than 100 people walked along downtown Smithville streets during one of last year’s Hot Summer Night events featuring a car show. This year’s free, weekly concert series starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.

SMITHVILLE — The annual Hot Summer Nights free concert series returns for 2019 at 6 p.m. Saturdays in Courtyard Park, located on the 100 block of Main Street in downtown Smithville.

With the theme of emergency vehicles, on Saturday Aug. 3, The Main Street Opry featuring Kathy Lynn will be the first weekly performance. Platte Valley Bank will sponsor the first event and serve free hot dogs to guests.

Following on Saturday, Aug. 10, The Overtones of Kansas City will play a selection of upbeat jazz. The night’s theme is healthy living.

Side by side with the annual Show and Shine Car Show on Aug. 17, the Courtyard Park stage will feature band Rock Bottom.

Back to School night, on Aug. 24, will welcome families to get in the swing of the season with a final performance by local star Casi Joy.
