Smithville passes Tobacco 21

Tobacco 21 is a nationwide initiative to raise the minimum age of those allowed to purchase tobacco products, including alternative nicotine and vapor products, from 18 to 21.

SMITHVILLE — Smithville Board of Aldermen approved a final reading of a Tobacco 21 ordinance in late May. It prohibits the sale of tobacco and vaping products to individuals under the age of 21.

Motion to approve came from Aldermen Jeff Bloemker and John Chevalier. The vote passed 4-2 with aldermen Melissa Wilson and Josh Hurlbert dissenting.

The ordinance is now in effect.
