CLAY COUNTY — Doug Ervin, a Republican from Kearney, announced his candidacy for Clay County Eastern District commissioner Wednesday, April 24.
“This county needs a commission that cares about our future, values law enforcement, and understands the infrastructure and economic development needs to bring Clay County into the 21st century,” Ervin said in a statement. “I find the conduct of this Commission to be unbecoming and a violation of the trust of its citizens.”
Ervin is employed by Cerner Corp. as a senior director and served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2003 to 2010.
State Rep. Ken Wilson has joined Ervin’s campaign and will serve as campaign treasurer. Initially, Wilson considered a run for this commission seat because he wants to see change at the county level, he said. However, he still has another year at the state before his term is complete.
“When Doug told me he was interested in running, I immediately gave him my full support. He loves this county, is man of character and a real professional,” Wilson said. “I’ve known Doug for years, and I’m relieved that he has stepped up. Doug is a proven fiscal conservative, a vocal proponent for transparent and accountable government, understands the needs of the county and brings the business experience necessary to turn this county around. He’s also a strong public servant.”
