CLAY COUNTY — Clay County Sheriff's Office deputies had an interesting early morning call Friday, May 31, when it was reported zebras were on the loose.

The call came in before 7 a.m. Friday when the striped animals, looking like they were clad in a natural prison jumpsuit, were spotted near Kearney at Missouri Highway 92 and Cameron Road. No injuries to the animals, people or property were reported.

In Twitter posts, sheriff's office Public Information Officer Jon Bazzano had fun with the call, joking with Kansas City police about a recent report of animals on the loose there.

"We didn't have to corral these zebras though. They'd just made it back home when we arrived," he said.

More on the escape will be published as details become available.
