LIBERTY — Between Liberty and Liberty North High Schools, Liberty Public Schools students clinched six Blue Star Awards and a scholarship from Starlight Theater for musical productions of "Mamma Mia!" and "Guys and Dolls." In total, the schools had 29 nominations.

Liberty High School students were recognized for scenic design, lighting design and lighting crew. Additionally, Kyle Munden took an award in technical direction.

Liberty students were also invited to perform a number on stage in front of students from all over the metropolitan area. 

From Liberty North, Thadeus Acha received a Rising Star scholarship after presenting a solo on stage. Two Blue Star Awards also were granted for costume design and construction. 

"Hannah Samson represented Liberty North High School on the first student board of the Blue Star Awards program," Liberty North Director Rebecca Dempsey said. "She was chosen with six other students from three other schools to serve in its first year after submitting an application that included resume and essays."

Samson took part in conducting the program during the Blue Star Awards ceremony, Thursday, May 23, at Starlight Theater in Kansas City.
