Deb Caywood eligible for Missouri Teacher of the Year

Deb Caywood has been recognized as a Kansas City Regional Teacher of the Year. She is one of two in the Northland.

LIBERTY — Deb Caywood, recently named Liberty Public Schools' Teacher of the Year in addition to being recognized by Northland Regional Chamber claiming the Christa McAuliffe Pioneer in Education Award, has now also been recognized by Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

DESE announced the 2020 Missouri Regional Teachers of the Year Wednesday, July 17, with 35 selected from across the state. Caywood was one of six in the Kansas City area.

Of those six, two are from the Northland.

Caywood is a fifth-grade teacher at EPiC Elementary School, located at 650 Conistor St.

The other Northland teacher recognized is Jennifer Spiegel from the North Kansas City School District. She is an English/language arts teacher at Antioch Middle School, located at 2100 NE 65th St., Gladstone.

Because of their being named Regional Teachers of the Year, both Caywood and Spiegel are eligible to be named Missouri Teacher of the Year.
