Kearney XC to conduct midnight practice

Like other school districts in the Northland, Kearney is home to a long list of sport camps throughout the summer.

To participate, a student must have a current physical dated after Feb. 1 of this year. Athletic dead week, when no athletic camps, open gyms or weight training takes place, is Aug. 3 to 11.

The following is a list of camps remaining at school district facilities before the start of the 2019-20 school year.


Youth football camp for children in grades kindergarten through seventh grade is 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 29 through Aug. 1, at the stadium at Kearney High School, 715 E. 19th St.

A player parent meeting night is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1. High school controlled scrimmages will be from 7 to 11 a.m. Aug. 2. Practice for those in grades nine through 12 will at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 12 through 14 and after school starting Aug. 15.

Leadership Band camp will be in the Kearney High School band room and stadium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 29 and 30.

Ninth-grade drumline camp is 1 to 4 p.m. July 31 through Aug. 2, in the high school band room.

Camp for ninth-grade band and high school leaders is 9 a.m. to noon July 31 to Aug. 2, at the high school stadium. This camp is for all ninth-grade band members and all high school leaders.

High School Band camp is 7 a.m. to noon in the high school band room and stadium from Aug. 5 to 9.

Camp for high school drumline members is 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 5 to 9, also in the band room and high school stadium.


Open field session for softball, which began in June, will continue from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m. July 18 and 24, at the high school softball field.

Fall practices

All first fall practices for student-athletes in grades nine through 12 will begin Aug. 12. For more details on upcoming camps, call the high school at 628-4585.
