LIBERTY — A new season is quickly approaching for Liberty North girls golf as the team looks to make a trip to the Class 4 state tournament for the fifthstraight year. The Eagles head into the new campaign after graduating two from last year’s team, Bailey Burkett, 2021 individual state champion; and Olivia Gilbert.

KEARNEY — Kearney girls tennis is heading into a new season looking to defend its KC Suburban Blue Conference title from last fall with a slew of newcomers ready to make an impact. The Bulldogs will look to fill the void left by the 12 athletes who graduated from last year’s squad, including all-conference tennis players Eliza Lohman, Madelyn Stuart, Charleigh Elliot, Alexis Nevins and Hannah Wermelskirchen.

LIBERTY — As the new school year begins, another fall sports season will soon be here, and teams are steadily preparing for another campaign. One of those squads nearing the start of the new season is Liberty girls golf under the direction of sixth-year coach Jason Carr.

SMITHVILLE — Last fall, the Smithville girls golf team won the KC Suburban Blue Conference. This year, the Warriors will attempt to defend their title with nearly the same group from last season.

LIBERTY — The start of a new season is quickly approaching and Liberty football is set to return to the gridiron. After finishing 7-4, claiming second in the KC Suburban Silver Conference and making it to the district championship last fall, the Blue Jays are loaded for another great year in the Northland under 14-year coach Chad Frigon.

SMITHVILLE — After working throughout the summer, Smithville football is set to kick off the new season under first-year head coach Josh Speer. The Warriors have spent the summer adjusting to the change in leadership after Warrior legend and nine-year coach Jason Ambroson, who guided the program to a Class 4 state championship in 2021 and four district titles, was announced as the next helm of the William Jewell football team in late December last year.

LIBERTY — With a new season set to start, Liberty North football will soon begin its defense of the Class 6 state title from last fall — the program’s first state title. After coming up just short of a state title in 2022, the Eagles put it all together and broke through for their first state championship last fall.

SMITHVILLE — When parents and students returned to schools for the academic year, a comment often heard was, “The school looks so clean and shiny.” That is thanks to a group of unsung heroes: district maintenance and custodial crews. For four members of the Smithville School District maintenance and custodian teams, the work over the summer prepares them to make sure facilities are outfitted with luster, just as students are with their new clothes and backpacks.
