The second day of the William Jewell Holiday Classic went better than the first for the hometown teams.

Playing in front of the hometown crowd tonight at the Mabee Center, the Liberty boys basketball team stayed perfect and improved to 8-0 on the season. The top-seeded team in the Cardinal Division, the Blue Jays handled William Chrisman, 59-43.

The feisty Bears kept things close most of the game and trailed by only six points, 45-39, with less than seven minutes to play in the contest. However, Liberty answered with an 11-0 run to pull away for good.

Junior guard Jalen Lewis had a big night, finishing with a game-high 24 points (highlighted by 6 of 8 3-point shooting) to go along with three rebounds and three assists. Clayton Adams scored 10 points, and Alex Tison added seven points and 11 rebounds. Brock Matson chipped in seven points and Jordan McClellan six.

Liberty earned the right to meet North Kansas City in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Eagles drilled Kansas City East, 71-29, in the Patterson Division consolation semifinals in the second game of the day in the morning session. North ran out to a 19-2 lead in the first six minutes of the game and never looked back.
