LIBERTY — Retired William Jewell College professor Ed Chasteen, known around the community for his nonprofit, HateBusters, will be leading a celebration called the Human Family Reunion from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Precious Blood Renewal Center, 2120 St. Gaspar Way, Liberty.
Chasteen taught race and ethnic relations in the fall and cultural anthropology every spring at William Jewell College for years beginning in the mid-1960s. His students would spend 15 weeks studying and working in the various and varied communities that live, work and worship in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. As their work wound down, each class invited those they had met and worked with to join in a celebration called the Human Family Reunion.
Anyone who lives, works and or worships in the area is invited to the Dec. 10 event. If people want to join, send names and contact information to Chasteen at firstname.lastname@example.org. Chasteen will pair people up and send questions to a pair. Those participating can then meet in person, over the phone or exchange emails.
Using the information obtained, participants are asked to write the story of that person and come to the Human Family Reunion to speak for three minutes, introducing that person to all those gathered for the reunion.
