In addition to Humphrey's Gravel Grinder bike race that brings in hundreds of cyclists to Smithville each year to race, enjoy barbecue and listen to music during a finish line party in Courtyard Park, May 15 was a hive of family activity in the city's friendly downtown. Other fun held that day included a movie in the park night from the parks and recreation department, family games like life-sized Connect Four and Jenga, a box fort challenge presented by Smithville Community in Action ahead of movie night and a log-splitting and sawing competition at the South Gale School presented by American Legion Post No. 58 and the local historical society.
