Ride to honor fallen veterans

Smithville American Legion Riders regularly ride to honor fallen veterans and lay them to rest at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Kansas. Pictured is a ride from April.

SMITHVILLE — American Legion Post No. 58 Riders will gather for a Ride to Honor Our Fallen at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 15, outside the Smithville American Legion Jim Nelson Post, 2607 Missouri Highway 92.

Kickstands are up at 10 a.m. The ride will have an officers’ escort to its first stop in Leavenworth, Kansas, for an inurnment service where Legion members, under an effort lead by Dewayne Knott, will put a soldier’s ashes to rest.

A full service with Honor Guard for the solider will follow. In case of poor road conditions, the ride will take an alternate route.

Following the first stop and service, riders will continue on a multi-stop journey. Community members are welcome to join.
