One happy shopper gives a deputy a high-five while shopping during the Shop With a Sheriff event at Walmart on North Church Road near Liberty in Kansas City this past weekend. “We helped 42 kids from 18 different families have an amazing holiday by taking them shopping,” states a sheriff’s office social media post about the day. The sheriff’s office charitable program is funded by donations and a grant from Walmart. Social workers with North Kansas City Schools, where deputies serve as school resource deputies, selected the children to participate.

In Kearney, the annual Shop With a Cop event — held this year on Saturday, Dec. 10 — brought out retired Kearney officer Marnie Irsik, who reviewed LOL Surprise Dolls with two excited shoppers. This year’s Shop with a Cop event saw officers treat 45 children to a shopping spree for toys and other items. The charitable program is funded by community donations and utilizes volunteers from Kearney Police Department and Kearney Enrichment Council. The Liberty Police Shop with a Cop program took 11 children shopping Saturday, Dec. 10. This was the 13th year and a return for in-person shopping after the COVID-19 pandemic. Lt. Nathan Mulch said, "Shop with a Cop is a great event where officers get to interact with young kids and help make their Christmas a little more enjoyable. The officers have as much fun as the kids in picking out toys, clothes and gifts for other family members. We want to thank everyone who purchased raffle tickets or donated to this wonderful event." Donations for next year can be dropped off at the police records unit in Liberty City Hall.
