On Saturday, May 22, 246 students from Smithville High School received their diplomas at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence. Dr. Todd Schuetz, the district superintendent, told the gathering that these students are marked by resilience, overcoming many hard lessons including the most recent and lengthy COVID-19 pandemic that closed schools, pushed students online and ended sports seasons in the spring of 2020. Then they endured a hybrid schedule for most of the current year.
