CLAY COUNTY — A Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed a man Monday, Nov. 18, after conducting a car check in the 3600 block of North Randolph Road in Kansas City.
The area is populated with several trucking sales businesses. The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the parking lot of the Motel 6 at 3636 N. Randolph Road.
“During the incident, an altercation occurred where the deputy was forced into using lethal force. The deputy was not physically injured during the altercation,” states a release.
According to Kansas City police, the man involved in the scuffle with a deputy was armed with a gun at the time of the incident.
While devices were found in the man’s vehicle, investigators from the bomb and arson unit determined they were not explosives.
Kansas City Police’s homicide unit is investigating the shooting. While the name of the person killed has not been released, the person is described as a white male.
“We will not release the identity of the deceased until the family has been notified,” wrote Kansas City Police’s Public Information Officer Tim Hernandez in an email to media.
