From 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, July 22 to 26, is children’s music camp at the church, located at 11401 Missouri Highway 33. On Mondays in July, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the church, 309 S. Stewart Road, Father Mike Roach and Patti Stark will lead a reflection period to look at prayer and meditation through scripture and breathing. The goal is to strengthen faith and focus.
The church is hosting a Community Blood Center blood drive from 12:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, in the social hall. From 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, July 28, there will be an interfaith event celebrating hope and a chance to learn about the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom at the center, 2120 S. Gaspar Way. Vacation Bible School, for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, is Saturday, July 20. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. with school from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 300 S. Bridge St. The day includes Bible-learning experiences, team-building games and songs and multisensory Bible adventures. Those participating are asked to bring a donation of either new underwear, socks, feminine care products or toiletries for the community pantry. Monetary donations are also welcome. Returning for its 9th year, Summer Hoops is an event sponsored by Grace Community Church that aims to provide a safe, positive place for youth to develop basketball skills. Participants will work on basketball drills and play scrimmage games during the sessions. Summer Hoops is led by high school and college basketball players under the supervision of Grace staff members. Sessions will be held on the following Fridays: July19 and Aug. 2 and 9. Session times are based on grade levels. Session one, for those entering grades three to five, is from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Session two, for those entering grades six through eight, will be split into two groups. The 13th annual Smithville Christian Family Day will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in Courtyard Park, located along the 100 block of Main Street. Festivities will include music, kids’ activities, food and vendors. Described as the “pep rally” for Nehemiah Festival held in September, Christian Family Day will feature 12 Christian bands of different genres. The event is free but sponsorships and donations are welcome.
North Lake Church of Smithville
The church hosts its summer camp in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, beginning at 10 a.m. July 29. The camp runs through Aug. 2. Participants will learn about Christ. Parents can pick their children up at 3 p.m. Aug. 2 from the Siloam Springs camp.
