The annual Joyful Giveaway is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 7, at 303 S. Grove St., Kearney. It will be a day where families in need can get free hair cuts, health screenings, groceries, encouragements and refreshments. For more information on upcoming activities, visit

The public is invited to “A Kearney Christmas,” a night of Christmas carols and dessert bar. The event begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 15.

St. James Catholic Church of Liberty

The congregation of the church, 309 S. Stewart Road, will look continue to look at the Novena, a traditional devotion, each week for the rest of November and through December. The Novena was written by a Spanish priest, Roman DeVera, sometime between 1904 and 1920. The next devotional will take place at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30.

The location will be in the conference rooms in the newly remodeled Resource Center located in the former St. James business offices.

Precious Blood Renewal Center of Liberty

The monthly Taizé prayer, which uses chant and contemplative silence, will be 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at 2120 Gaspar Way. Taizé prayer is a sung, ecumenical community prayer. First Christian Church of Smithville

Advent will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec 1. A craft party and dinner will follow that evening at 5 p.m. in the church, located at 201 N. Bridge St.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

A live nativity scene will be performed beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, on the Ali Kemp Memorial Stage in downtown Smithville’s Courtyard Park, located along the 100 block of Main Street. The evening will feature live music and hot chocolate. All are welcome to the free event.
