SMITHVILLE — Smithville Area Firefighters union Local 4945 is sponsoring a golf tournament at noon Saturday, Oct. 5, to benefit Valor Ranch, a new, Smithville-based nonprofit organization aimed at getting homeless veterans back on their feet. Organizers of the ranch are currently looking to purchase property for the upstart charity.

The tournament will be at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex at Smithville Lake,  18212 Golf Course Road. Team fees are $300 each and include green fees, cart rental, use of the range, food and a $10 credit to the pro shop. Attendees are welcome to bring their own beverages.

Sponsorships are also sought for the tournament with sponsorship benefits including advertising during the event, allowance for teams to play and golf balls. The sponsorship deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 1.

All proceeds benefit Valor Ranch, which provides education and skills training to homeless, honorably discharged veterans. The ranch's ultimate goal is to find homes and jobs for every veteran who comes through its program.
