SMITHVILLE — Samantha Jones, 33, of Smithville, was sentenced to nine years in prison following a drunk-driving wreck last June that killed her daughter, Macklyn Lucas, 5.
Jones pleaded guilty in May of this year to felony DWI that resulted in the death of a person and was sentenced Friday, July 12, in Platte County Circuit Court, according to court records.
According to previous Courier-Tribune reporting, Platte County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jones on a felony warrant following the crash.
Court records stated the minivan Jones drove, ran off the road hitting an electrical pole at Skinner Lake Road and Missouri Highway E near Camden Point in Platte County.
Jones admitted to investigators to drinking two bottles of wine. Her blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit at .186.
Lucas suffered head trauma. Despite being air lifted to Children’s Mercy Hospital, she did not survive the accident.
