KEARNEY — Common Sense for Common People, a grassroots political action group based in Kearney, will host speaker Doug Ervin at the group's next meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 14, in the downstairs training room of ReeceNichols, located at 307 S. Jefferson St.

The meeting is open to the public and may be of interest to those living in Clay County, particularly residents of Liberty, Kearney and Smithville.

While filing for the next election year has not opened, Ervin announced his intent to run against Luann Ridgeway in the 2020 election for eastern Clay County commissioner. Ervin, a Republican, is employed by Cerner Corporation and served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010. He served as chair of the Special Committee on Small Business, vice chair of Appropriations-Transportation and Economic Development and vice chair of Children and Families along with serving on other policy committees relating to tourism, tax policy, health care and education.
