Semi crash shuts down Interstate 35 near Liberty Hospital

The Liberty Fire Department responded to the semi wreck on Interstate 35. The driver was not seriously injured.

LIBERTY — A semi wreck on Interstate 35 that occurred around 12:40 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, shut down traffic in northbound and southbound lanes of the interstate for nearly three hours. Traffic along Missouri Highway 291 has also stalled as a result.

The Liberty Fire Department and area law enforcement agencies responded to the scene. Fire Chief Mike Snider said when crews arrived, they found a jack-knifed truck in the median. The truck caught fire.

The driver, Snider said, was not seriously injured and no one was transported to the hospital.

After firefighters got the truck fire under control, crews controlled a diesel fuel leak in the truck that occurred during the crash.

As of 3:40 p.m., all lanes of traffic were back open.

More on the story will be published as it becomes available.
