SMITHVILLE — Four teenagers suffered injuries in the morning commute hours of Tuesday, Nov. 5, after the vehicle they were traveling in rolled over on 168th Street.

Smithville Area Fire Protection District Chief Dave Cline said the four teens were traveling between Collins and Quinn roads at the time of the wreck. The accident occurred, the chief said, when the driver of the vehicle swerved to miss another vehicle in the roadway and the vehicle began to roll, ejecting one of the teens.

“It was a single car rollover. ... It was reported that none of them had a seat belt on,” he said.

All four were transported by ambulances to Kansas City area hospitals for treatment. Two of the teens suffered moderate injuries while the other two suffered minor injuries.

“They were lucky,” Cline said, adding the accident could have resulted in death as one was ejected and none wore seat belts. The names of those involved in the wreck have not been released.
