Missouri’s unemployment rate in January was the lowest it’s been since shortly after the 2008 stock market crash. According to the Missouri Department of Economic Development, January’s unemployment dropped to a rate of 7.2 percent. That’s down from 8 percent the previous month as a result of 21,000 new jobs added. That number is also well below the national unemployment rate for January, which was 8.3 percent. It’s also Missouri’s lowest unemployment rate since November 2008, when the jobless rate was 7.2 percent statewide. It’s also well below Missouri’s recent peak unemployment rate of 9.7 percent recorded for several months in 2009.
