SMITHVILLE — Although the Smithville Area Chamber of Commerce had hopes to reschedule the Backyard BBQ Bash contest for later this month, only a handful of participants were available to participate on the new date.

Needing at least 12 teams to sign up, the chamber canceled the contest due to lack of needed participation.

Next year's event is slated to take place as usual. Chamber members said they were excited to see the tradition continue despite inclement weather that resulted in this year's cancellation.
