Ernest Ray Sexton, 82, a longtime Liberty resident, joined his Lord, and his wife of 63 years, Evelyn, in Heaven on September 27, 2019.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, followed by a service celebrating Ernie's life at 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty. Burial with military honors will follow in Glenridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ararat Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund or to Wounded Warriors.

Ernie was born July 24, 1937, in Rochelle, IL., the son of Latha and Sophia (Shelton) Sexton.

He was one of 13 children. He was preceded in death by his parents; 12 siblings; wife, Evelyn Juanita Alpha Sexton; and grandson, Trevor James Sexton.

Ernie served his country in the U.S. Air Force from August 24, 1954 until receiving honorable discharge as Airman Second Class on February 1, 1957. He was a member of American Legion Post 95 in Liberty. He was also a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge and had been a longtime member of Ararat Shrine Temple where he served as Commander of the Legion of Honor.

Ernie's career in the airline industry spanned more than three decades, first with Boeing and later with TWA, where he worked for 33 years, retiring as an Inspector in 1997.

Ernie and his wife attended Nebo and Liberty Baptist churches. They enjoyed riding on their Harley with friends and traveled throughout the country.

Survivors include his sons, Ron Sexton (Karen), David Sexton (Deanna), and Bill Sexton; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
