Lola “Lady” Lewis, 99, of Liberty, MO passed away surrounded by her family, on Monday, January 20, 2020, at Our Lady of Mercy Country Home.

Lola was born July 8, 1920, to James and Minnie (Foss) Sager in Clifton, Kansas. Lola and her siblings grew up in Clyde, Kansas. After graduating from high school, she continued her education at Washburn University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology in 1942. Shortly after, she met John “Jack” Lewis, and on December 15, 1945, the couple married. The couple had four children. After raising the children, Lola found time to work as a Volunteer Trainer for AARP doing presentations all over the U.S. She worked for the National Council on Alcoholism, she also volunteered for Hillcrest Hope in Liberty. Lola was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Liberty for many years.

In her free time, Lola loved to travel and visited many countries in Europe and Asia, as well as The Middle East and Canada. She was also an avid bridge player, enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy and working crossword puzzles (in ink). “Lady” had a large worldview in that she felt that culture and racial differences added to the richness of the world rather than dividing it.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 42 years; and her brothers, Richard and Stan Sager.

She is survived by her sister, Portia Maxon of Topeka, KS; and her children, Terrie Lewis of Wichita, KS, Jackie McCarthy of KCMO, Mark (Jane) Lewis of Liberty, MO, and Steve Lewis of Gladstone, MO. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Andy (Angel) Lewis, Blaine Lewis, Sarah Whitten, Rachel (Jonathan) Burdg, Louisa Blevins; 5 ½ great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A visitation is scheduled for 5:30 PM, Thursday, January 23, 2020, at the First Presbyterian Church of Liberty, 138 N. Main St., Liberty, MO, with a memorial service immediately following at 6:30 PM.
