I have worked in the Clay County Annex for more than 32 years. There is so much wrong with this building inside and out that it is not worth repairing or remodeling. Critical maintenance of this building has lacked for so many years that it is not worth bandages now.
It would save the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars to tear it down and rebuilt a larger, greener, eco-friendly building on that same site. Relocating everyone in that building to a temporary location and getting on with rebuilding would be the best thing that ever happened.
The collector’s, assessor’s and recorder’s offices and the University of Missouri Extension need to be in on the rebuild plan. They should be asked three questions: What do you need, what do you want, and what can you live with?
The county doesn’t need to purchase more land it can’t take care of. Please stop making Clay County the laughing stock of the state.
