SMITHVILLE — The 11th Annual Friends Improving Smithville Habitat Day will take place Tuesday, March 28.
Eric Dennis, fisheries management biologist with the Missouri Department of Conservation, has been leading the efforts to bring brush piles to the lake. They provide fish areas for nesting, resting, escaping from predators and protection from harsh weather conditions. Brush piles may be built to various dimensions based on the size of available material.
Volunteers are needed to help improve fish habitat in Smithville Lake. FISH volunteers will be able to join MDC, United States Army Corps of Engineers and Clay County Parks and Rec. for a full day of brush pile installation in Smithville Lake.
Lunch will be provided.
Dennis said this year’s focus in on the Camp Branch Arm around the Kelsey Short Campground.
Anyone wanting to volunteer to help with FISH Day can contact Dennis at 271-3100 or email
