Boating safety is paramount. Ensure U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets are available for the weight and size of every passenger, especially kids.

CLAY COUNTY — To prepare for summer and safety, the Missouri Highway Patrol will hold boat equipment inspections Saturday, May 20.

For Troop A, there are three area lakes were inspectors will be checking out boats. From 8 to 11 a.m., inspections will be at the Harry S. Truman Project Office on the west side of the Truman Dam, Truman Lake. From 10 a.m. to noon, they will be at Longview Lake Marina, Longview Lake. From 2 to 4 p.m., inspectors will be checking out boats at Camp Branch Marina boat ramp at Smithville Lake.
