SMITHVILLE — The eighth annual Daniel Palmer Memorial Classic Open Buddy Bass Tournament is slated for Saturday, Sept. 7, at Smithville Lake.

The tournament, hosted by the Smithville Bassmasters, welcomes anglers of all skill levels from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Missouri Highway W boat ramp on the lake.

Entry fee is $100 per boat, with 40% of the proceeds going to the Fishing for Freedom organization, which helps military veterans enjoy the outdoors, according to a press release. Each boat will be entered into a big bass pot.

“Over the years we’ve helped raise thousands of dollars for the Fishing for Freedom organization,” club Treasurer Marshall Brown said in the release. “This year we hope to add thousands more.”

The annual event is held to remember Army Spc. Daniel Alan Palmer, son of former club president John Shields.

Entry forms, rules and more information can be found at smithvillebassmasters.com.
