LIBERTY — Following a national search, William Jewell College selected Joseph Garcia as the vice president of finance and operations and chief financial officer. He began his new role Jan. 6, according a press release.
A retired lieutenant colonel and 28-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Garcia most recently served as executive vice president for administration at Empire State College in New York and previously as vice president of finance and business at The Citadel.
Prior to transitioning into higher education, Garcia provided financial leadership within the federal government, including serving as CFO for FEMA during Hurricane Katrina recovery in New Orleans for three years, and as CFO for a federal agency at USDA. He also volunteered as board chairman for several nonprofits including in the areas of human trafficking and domestic violence support.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from University of Arizona, an Master's of Business Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma and an executive master’s in leadership from Georgetown University. He has authored four books on leadership as well as built curricula and taught leadership to cadets at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
