LIBERTY — Classes are slated to start this June for William Jewell College’s new Master of Arts in Teaching program. The program enables people with a college degree to acquire high school teacher certification in as little as one calendar year, states a Jewell release.

Jewell developed the teaching program in response to teacher shortages in the region, according to the release.

Teacher certification in 21 content fields is offered, requiring 47 credit hours total for the master’s degree and teacher certification. Up to six credit hours of equivalent graduate credit can be transferred.

Applicants will need to pass the appropriate Missouri Content Assessment before admission to confirm their existing content knowledge. Students currently at Jewell for an undergraduate degree can stay for an additional year to complete the program.
