Signs of Suicide

SMITHVILLE — Smithville School District is inviting parents and students to join together at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in the Performing Arts Center, 645 S. Commercial Ave., to teach families how to recognize signs of suicide through the Signs of Suicide prevention program.

The suicide prevention program was adopted by the district about a year ago. Since then, other districts in the Northland, including Liberty, have adopted the program.

Presented to students in grades six through 12, the program begins with a parent night to help educate parents before a video is shown to students during a selected school day. Parent night attendees will gain an understanding of mental health issues youth face today, learn about the SOS program and discuss what it means to be a trusted adult.
