LIBERTY — Liberty Parks and Recreation began hosting a 74-team youth baseball tournament on Friday, June 5, the first major sports tournament in the area since sports play around the country halted in mid-March as a response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association released its 2020 academic all-state teams and 18 area baseball players made the list.

KEARNEY — Bulldogs baseball coach Shane Remley praised his younger talent as the baseball season came to a close. Despite losing seven seniors to graduation, Remley will have students step up, including a five sophomores and three freshmen.
Staley ended Liberty baseball’s season May 22 with a 3-1 victory in the state sectional round at Liberty High School. However, no one had any reason to be downtrodden on the Liberty baseball team. They ended a stellar season with a 28-7 record.

KANSAS CITY — It took only five innings for Smithville baseball to claim a 19-1 victory over Winnetonka on Monday, March 25, at Winnetonka High School, winning by the mercy rule.
