KEARNEY — The Kearney swim team was in action in a meet against Staley, North Kansas City, Oak Park and Winnetonka on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Bulldogs performed well, earning second place with a score of 353 points.
Leading the way for Kearney was Whitaker Steward, who won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.13. That time was good enough for state consideration. Steward was also able to claim the 500-freestyle title.
Seth Ballard, Parker Bartlett, Lane Austin and Steward took second place in the 200-medley relay. Not only did he perform well in the relay, but Austin won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.62. The time was good enough for state consideration.
Individually, Bartlett finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 500-yard freestyle. Parker Mendel earned third in the 100-yard breaststroke, just behind Bartlett.
The 400-yard freestyle relay of Austin, Ballard, Bartlett and Steward ended in second place with a state consideration time. The team of four hit the wall with a time of 3:50.78.
Kearney swim will be back in action in the North Kansas City Invitational beginning on Friday, Sept. 16. Competition ends with finals the following day.
