Smithville swimming finishes 8th at Platte County

PLATTE CITY — Smithville’s boys swim team placed eighth at the Platte County Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Platte County Community Center.

Smithville’s 200-yard freestyle relay team and Nathan Noll each picked up wins.

The Warriors’ winning relay team of Kolby Ruff, Brady Bell, Ray Fugett and Noll raced to a 1:36.03 finish, while Noll won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:07.04.

Smithville was second in the 200 medley relay, as Noll, Bell, Justin Coleman and Ruff contributed to a 1:47.88.

Individually, Ruff and Bell each earned a pair of runner-up finishes. Ruff took second in the 200 IM (2:09.92) and in the 100 backstroke (57.77), and Bell was second in the 500 freestyle (5:28.36) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.38).

Noll also earned a third-place finish in the 100 breast-sroke with a time of 1:04.65.

The Warriors compiled 181 total points in the 13-team meet. Platte County won its own event with 435 points,.

Smithville has turned in automatic state qualifying marks in all of its relays, according to coach Katherine Schlimm. Noll has automatic marks in each event besides the 100 breaststroke, and Bell has made the cut in the 100 breaststroke.

Smithville is in action at the Suburban Blue meet Friday, Nov. 1 in Lee’s Summit.


The Bulldogs had three automatic state qualifying marks ahead of their meet at Blue Springs on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Kearney’s 200-yard medley relay team of Carter Woods, Vaughn Sloan, Micah Brant and Adam Hoffman have qualified for state. Sloan has a qualifying mark in the 100 backstroke, and Scott Doll has one in the 200 freestyle.

The Bulldogs will compete in the Suburban Blue Conference meet on Friday, Nov. 1 in Lee’s Summit.

Liberty & Liberty North

The Blue Jays and Eagles returned to the pool to celebrate senior night on Wednesday, Oct. 16 after an eight-day layoff. Results were unavailable at press time.

Liberty North will compete in a meet on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the Henley Aquatic Center before bBoth the Eagles and Blue Jays compete in the Suburban Red meet Nov. 1 to Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Gladstone Community Center.
