Liberty girls first, Liberty North second at conference golf championships

KANSAS CITY — Liberty placed five individuals inside the top 10 to win the Suburban Red girls golf title. Liberty North’s Averi Mickelson claimed the individual title to lead the Eagles to a runner-up finish on Monday, Sept. 30, at Hodge Park Golf Course.

Mickelson carded a 79 to win medalist honors, helping the Eagles to a season-low score of 374.

Abby Howard fired an 82 for runner-up honors, aiding the Blue Jays to a 357 score. Park Hill South was third with a score of 379, while St. Joseph Central was fourth at 404 and Staley fifth at 418.

The Blue Jays’ top five all earned all-conference honors. Jenna Phelan tied for fourth place with an 89 while Hope Peck (92) was sixth and Jamie Phelan and Bella Peregrine tied for seventh with a 94.

For Liberty North, Kate Braden (94) was all-conference with a seventh-place finish.

Olivia Hellerich tied for 14th to finish just inside the top 15 for all-conference honorable mention.

Kaitlyn Lafferty turned in a 101 for 17th place and Emmy Braden (102) took 19th for the Eagles.

Both Liberty golf squads will be in action next week at the Class 2 Distrcit 8 tournament at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex at Smithville Lake.
