Liberty, Kearney soccer travel to St. Louis

Liberty's Kat Torrance goes for a ball in a game against Park Hill South on Wednesday, March 27. After winning in overtime, the team had a short turnaround as it went to St. Louis and won a pair of games. She was named player of the game on Friday, March 29, against Bellville East (Illinois).

ST. LOUIS — After winning games Wednesday, March 27, Liberty and Kearney soccer squads took the trip east to St. Louis to play in the Parkway College Showcase to end the week.

The event took place Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30, at the Lou Fusz Soccer Complex in St. Louis.

Liberty 3,

Bellville East (Illinois) 1

Liberty soccer started its time in St. Louis in style with a 3-1 win over Bellville East (Illinois) on Friday.

Kat Torrance was named player of the game.

Kearney 2,

Ursuline Academy 1

Caroline Kelly kept pace with two-goal performance earlier in the week as she netted both of Kearney’s goals on Friday to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 win over Ursuline Academy.

Ursuline scored first, but Kelly converted a penalty kick to level things at 1-1.

Katie Speaker then connected with Kelly for Kelly’s second goal of the game to make it a 2-1 final.

Chelbi Brown was named player of the game.

Liberty 3,

Sacred Heart-Griffin (Springfield, Illinois) 0

Liberty closed out its time in St. Louis with a clean sheet topping Sacred Heart-Griffin (Springfield, Illinois) 3-0 in the rain Saturday.

Maya Gaona was named player of the game.

Kearney 2,

Edwardsville (Illinois) 1

Kelly netted her third two-goal performance of the season as Kearney defeated Edwardsville (Illinois) 2-1 on Saturday in St. Louis.

She scored her first goal in the first two minutes before netting her final goal of the trip on another penalty kick.

Edwardsville did manage a goal, but Kearney hung on in the rain.

Abigail Logan was named player of the game.

Both teams moved to 4-0 after the trip.
