LIBERTY — Liberty North’s girls swim team accomplished a few goals last season.

Conference champs. Undefeated dual season. Three tournament wins. Fourth place at the always tough COMO meet. And last but not least, a program-best seventh-place finish at the Class 2 state meet.

Liberty North, led by coach Mark Warner, in his eighth year, finished 19th at state in 2017-18, the Eagles’ previous best state finish.

Last year was a season to remember for the Eagles, and they’ll enter the new campaign with high hopes once again.

Twelve varsity swimmers and three divers return this winter, seven of which went to state last year.

Ainsley Dillon returns as the defending state champion in the 50 freestyle.

She was the runner-up in the 100 freestyle, and she contributed in the first team all-state relay teams of 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle.

All-state senior swimmers Julia Blanchard, Kate Huyser and Bryn Mattes return, as does junior Katie Shepherd.

The Eagles had two strong relay teams last season, the 200 and 400 freestyle races. Those teams are expected to fair well once again.
