Howerton wins silver medal at AAU Junior Olympic Games

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Raeli Howerton’s first javelin throw of the final round of the AAU Junior Olympic Games eventually stood as her best and was enough to notch her a silver medal.

Howerton, a senior-to-be at Liberty High School, registered a mark of 130-2 to earn runner-up honors in the 17-18-year-old division at the national meet Aug. 2.

A three-sport athlete at LHS, Howerton finished second in a competition that pitted 83 other athletes from across the country. Meghan Owens of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, won gold with a 134-9 mark.
