SMITHVILLE — A Smithville Middle School football team recently pulled off a nifty trick play to garner national attention.
KANSAS CITY – Smithville’s defense held a potent Winnetonka offense to two touchdowns, rebounding from a road loss with a 38-14 victory on Friday, Oct. 11.
LIBERTY — Class 6 No. 3 Liberty North stayed hot on the coolest Friday night of the 2019 season defeating No. 10 Blue Springs 31-14 Friday, Oct. 11, at the Crossley Family Activity Center.
GRAIN VALLEY — From the 20 to the 20, the Kearney Bulldogs put some impressive drives together on the road against the Grain Valley Eagles.
LIBERTY — Kaden Rottjakob was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals Friday, Oct. 11, including a 37-yard game winner in double overtime that gave Liberty a 23-20 home win over Lee’s Summit West.
Boys Swimming and Diving
PLATTE CITY — Smithville’s boys swim team placed eighth at the Platte County Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Platte County Community Center.
LIBERTY — Liberty senior Tait Harvey will continue his swimming career on the other side of the state. Harvey, an all-state swimmer, announced via Twitter on Thursday, Oct. 3, his commitment to Lindenwood University in St. Charles, nearly 24 miles northwest of St. Louis.
KEARNEY — The Smithville girls cross country team is now 2-for-2 on Suburban Blue conference championships as Olivia Littleton led the Warriors to a second straight league title, while Kearney’s Tyler Pedee won the boys race on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Jesse James Park.
LIBERTY — Liberty’s cross country teams swept the team titles at the Suburban Red conference meet while Liberty North’s girls placed second and the boys took fourth on Saturday, Oct. 12, on the Wildflower Cross Country Course across from Liberty North High School.
PECULIAR — Liberty North and Liberty’s boys cross country teams took fourth and fifth place, respectively, and Liberty’s girls placed third while Olivia Littleton highlighted Smithville’s runs at the KC Classic on Saturday, Oct. 5., on Raymore-Peculiar’s cross country course.
LIBERTY — Trying to play the role of spoiler, upset-minded Kearney couldn’t quite get the bats going against top-seeded Liberty North.
LIBERTY — Three area teams — Liberty, Liberty North and Kearney — are set to compete in a five-team Class 4 District 15 tournament Wednesday, Oct. 16 to Friday, Oct. 18 at Liberty High School.
INDEPENDENCE — The Liberty girls golf team is back in the fold as a state team qualifier after finishing second at the Class 2 Sectional 4 tournament on Monday, Oct. 14, at the par-72 WinterStone Golf Course.
SMITHVILLE — Abby Howard brought home a district championship to lead the Liberty Blue Jays to a team title while Liberty North was runner-up at the Class 2 District 8 golf tournament on Monday, Oct. 7, on the par-72 Posse Golf Course at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex at Smithville Lake.
The Kearney Bulldogs took care of business with a conference victory in three sets with Grain Valley on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Grain Valley High School.
