CAPE GIRARDEAU — In only its second state final four appearance, Liberty volleyball took third at the MSHSAA championships on Saturday, Nov. 9, inside the Show Me Center.
The Blue Jays won the third-place game, 2-0 (28-26, 25-15) over the Francis Howell Central Spartans.
Liberty’s first final four appearance occurred in 2014 when the Blue Jays finished fourth.
The Blue Jays began their postseason with a 2-1 victory over crosstown rival Liberty North for a fourth straight district championship.
Liberty then handled Lee’s Summit in straight sets before pulling off an epic comeback in the third set against St. Teresa’s Academy.
The Blue Jays were down 18-12 before rallying for a state quarterfinal victory, snapping four-year streak of postseason losses to St. Teresa’s.
Liberty’s volleyball team went 3-3 in six sets during Class 4 round-robin action of the MSHSAA final four Friday, Nov. 8.
The Blue Jays end the season with a 30-8-1 record.
