LIBERTY — William Jewell College in Liberty announced on Thursday, March 12, that it will suspend all intercollegiate athletics through at least April 5 due to the global COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

In a press release, the college said it is following the recommendations from public health professionals to suspend all practices and competitions as a health and safety precaution.

The release said that William Jewell does not currently have confirmed or suspected cases of coronavirus at this time. The college also instituted travel reporting and self-quarantine protocols earlier this month.

The current list of sports with suspended games are men’s and women’s golf, track and field, baseball, softball and tennis.

NCAA announced the same day that all winter and spring championships are canceled for this season, saying it would be impractical to host any of these events during this academic year.
