ROGER GUY BURNETT, ESQ.

Roger Guy Burnett, ESQ., 89, of Liberty, Missouri passed away Friday, Sept. 13th, 2024, in Gladstone, Missouri.

A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21st, with a Celebration of Roger’s Life to follow at 11 a.m., all at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home, 119 E. Franklin St., Liberty, MO, 64068. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to Musical Theatre Heritage.

Roger was born the only child of Guy and Zelma Burnett on June 20, 1935 in Smithville, Missouri. After high school, he started farming and married Mary Batman, having four children. Roger graduated law school from the University of Missouri, Kansas City in 1963. Then he had a very successful career as an attorney on the Historic Downtown Liberty Square for the next five decades. In 1991, Roger married Vicky Manley and gained two step-daughters. He and his wife renovated 19 N. Water St. Loft in 2004, and the Square became their home. Roger was famous for his bright and friendly personality, known to patron the local coffee shops with his office staff. He loved to travel, play golf, watch British mystery programs and listen to music live, especially the Kansas City Symphony. He had a genuine interest in other people and made them feel seen and valued beyond their roles and relations. Roger was also an innovative businessman, going paperless as a pilot program for the government in Social Security Disability Law. He adored traveling the world with his wife, visiting with his children and fine dining around Kansas City and Liberty.

He is remembered for his unwavering sense that “everything will be okay,” his advocacy on behalf of the needy, his generosity to his loved ones, his advocacy for education, his astute observation of the world and his kind regard for his fellow human beings. The ripples of his loving influence continue to play out in countless lives. Liberty is fortunate to have felt his impact over these many years.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Barbara Alexander.

He is survived by his wife, Vicky Burnett; his children, Kay White (husband Ralph), Mike Burnett (wife Yvonne), and Sylvia Lam (husband Charles); his step-daughters, Christy Hammond (husband Tim) and Dede Wood (husband Danny); as well as his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
