LIBERTY — For more than a decade, Patti Stark, the owner of Serenity on the Square, has been leading the Moonlight Yoga series in Stocksdale Park. Stark asks for donations for the dog park within the park before each yoga session.

LIBERTY — The Liberty Junior Police Academy brought together 18 cadets from the four Liberty School District middle schools to participate in a weeklong course that mixes classroom learning with hands-on activities to expose cadets to a variety of police training topics including fitness, patrol tactics, criminal investigations, traffic safety, self defense and SWAT team techniques.
LIBERTY — Basement Books, 13 E. Kansas St., officially opens its doors at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1. The journey for owner Stephanie Bloom-Levy, who goes by Stevie, has been almost a decade to see a bookstore open. She did online selling in 2013, but it was in 2020 that a used library of books dropped into her lap.
Children will soon be trading in the chimes of neighborhood ice cream trucks for the bells of school as summer vacation gives way to the start of a new academic year. August through September is prime back-to-school season, with children all across the country stocking their backpacks and shopping for new school wardrobes.
SMITHVILLE — The upcoming Warrior Closet dates in August are aimed at helping students in need in the Smithville School District get ready to return to school, said Lisa Manz, family resource specialist for the district.
Since 2004, Missouri has been participating in a sales tax holiday starting the first Friday in August to help families ease the burden on their wallet while back-to-school shopping. The 2024 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday begins at 12:01 a.m.
