Natalie Coleman, a graduating senior at Liberty North High School, has been named one of the 621 semifinalists in the 2025 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Initially there were more than 6,000 general program candidates before the semifinalists were named.

LIBERTY — This year’s Alexander W. Doniphan Community Service & Leadership Award honoree, Dr. Gary Armstrong, has five heroes.

SMITHVILLE — The Smithville Board of Education approved a new director of human resources for the 2025-2026 school year.

PARKVILLE — In celebration of the leadership achievements of Park University students, faculty and staff during the 2024-25 academic year, the Office of Student Life and the Park Student Government Association announced recipients of honors as part of the 30th annual Dr. Doris A. Howell Leadership Awards. The awards program, held last month, is named for Howell, a 1944 Park graduate who was an internationally renowned leader in pediatrics and hospice care before passing away in November 2018.

Eleven students from the Liberty School District placed in several areas of competition in the National History Day state contest April 26 on the University of Missouri campus in Columbia.There were almost 500 middle and high school students from across the state competed.

SMITHVILLE — The Warrior Closet is getting summer clothes ready for district families in need. Items available when the closet is open include shorts, shoes and summer shirts.

LIBERTY — The Liberty Police Department is now accepting applications for the Junior Police Academy! This year’s program will run 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 14 - 18.
