KEARNEY — Kearney High School senior Lexie Barton has been honored with the 2025 Missouri FCCLA Outstanding Leader Scholarship, recognizing her exceptional leadership, dedication, and involvement within the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America organization.

Metropolitan Community College leaders, along with the community, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 25, to celebrate the opening of the MCC-Maple Woods Agriculture Annex. The event was held on the campus at 2601 N.E. Barry Road, Kansas City.

LIBERTY — Marking 26 years after the mass shooting at Columbine High School, American Public Square is hosting a panel discussion addressing the impact of gun violence in schools starting at 6:30 p.m. April 2 at Peters Theater in Brown Hall at William Jewell College, 500 College Hill.

SMITHVILLE — The Smithville School Board of Education has approved hiring an executive director of operations and safety for the 2025-2026 school year.

The Gina Lane Debate Society, William Jewell College’s debate team, were crowned champions Friday at the National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence held at McKendree University, Lebanon, Illinois.
