Liberty council approves spends down general fund by $3.5 million

LIBERTY — The Liberty City Council approved spending down the general fund by $3.5 million.Finance Director Vicki McClure explained that the city’s general fund policy typically has the fund, used for general city expenses, around 20% of total revenues, but due to “financial stewardship and prudence,” the fund balance was sitting at almost 40% before the spend down.

Kearney wins award for roadway projects

KEARNEY — The city of Kearney was presented the Missouri Municipal League 2024 Innovation Award in the category for cities with populations of 5,000 to 15,000 for the city’s 19th Street Interchange and Complete Streets Project.Kearney’s project was chosen from 23 applications.Judges were impressed by the collaboration between city elected officials and staff, Missouri Department of Transportation, adjacent property owners, the Federal Highway Administration and other regulating agencies to “enhance local and regional connectivity, improve safety, promote economic development and to create a beautiful state-of-the-art entry into the city of Kearney,” reads a city social media post about the award.“This award reflects the city’s hard work, creativity and ability to work as team players for the betterment of our community,” wrote city leaders on Facebook.
